Grove City Art and Theatre Camp                                                                                                                                                                              July 16-20, 2018 (Grades PreK-12)

We are looking for teachers in the following areas:                                                                                                                                                painting, sculpting, culinary arts,  fiber arts/sewing, paper craft,  photography, preschool art/music,& more!

 Deadline to apply: March 15, 2018

  • Camp will be held at Grove City Christian Academy in Grove City, PA
  • Morning session runs from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM with a snack & activity break in the middle.
  • Afternoon session runs from 1:00-4:30 PM with a snack & activity break in the middle.
  • Art teachers will plan a walk through open house on the last day of the event (time TBD)
  • Performance teachers will plan a Friday evening showcase
  • Interviews conducted as applications received

Benefits/Pay

  • Teachers create their own class according to their skills and teaching style
  • With a minimum of 6 students, teachers are paid $400 for teaching half day or $700 for teaching the full day, with a one hour break between sessions. 
  • 12 or more students enrolled = $100 bonus
  • Teachers will be reimbursed for supply costs based on class enrollment.  You will be guaranteed the supply fee per class times number of students enrolled.  Teachers may decide their supply fee. 
  • Teachers’ children may attend their parent’s camp free of charge. That child will not count in the enrollment towards pay received.
  • A teacher may enroll 2 of his/her children for half price.   

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children required.
  • Experience/Education in subject matter required.   
  • All teachers and adult volunteers must obtain their PA child abuse, PA state police criminal, and FBI child abuse background checks prior to the beginning of camp. Copies of all of clearances must be provided and will be kept on file at the facility for the duration of camp.
  • All teachers must attend a mandatory orientation session with the camp director to go over camp policies (this will be scheduled prior to the week of camp).

KIDS THEATRE TEACHER/DIRECTOR--- Interviews held as applications received

  • Teach and direct a Kids Theatre play for 2nd-5th graders
  • Flexible schedule! Teacher chooses when to hold the class and how long session runs.  Class/rehearsal schedule decided based on teacher and studio availability.  Options include a 6 week session with 2-3 rehearsal per week or a 4 month session with 1-2 rehearsals per week.  
  • Teacher will have full access to all of Outta Theatre's costumes, props, and other materials and resources.
  • Teacher will not have to deal with payment and other administrative duties.
  • Pay negotiated based on rehearsal schedule (approximately $10-12 per hour) 
  • Teacher will have access to the studio for lesson planning.   
  • Teacher will be paid as an independent contractor  and will be responsible for paying any taxes owed
  • Possible additional teaching opportunities as the studio grows! 
  • Clearances and teaching experience required

 PRESCHOOL and LITTLE KIDS THEATRE TEACHER--- Interviews held as applications received

  • Teach a weekly one hour class for preschoolers and/or Grades K-2
  • Responsibilities include creating a fun lesson each week and preparing some form of showcase for the parents at the end of the preschool session.  This can be a simple 10 minute program, depending on the teacher's focus for the class.  
  • Pay $10-$12 per hour, based on enrollment.  
  • Clearances and experience working with children required. 

PIANO TEACHERS (& other instruments, especially GUITAR)

Want to teach, but don't want the hassle of dealing with payment set-up and other administrative hassles?

  • Work part time for Outta Theatre!
  • You will have full access to Outta Theatre piano/music teaching materials and resources 
  • Use Outta Theatre's payment policies and online payment and scheduling system (mymusicstaff.com).   
  • Outta Theatre will include you in all of their active marketing and put your info on the website. 
  • There are currently a few wait list students which would be referred to you.  
  • New piano students would be assigned to you based on your schedule
  • You set your schedule based on your availability and studio availability 
  • You choose which method books to use (subject to approval/recommendations)
  • You will be paid monthly as an independent contractor.  Pay will be $20 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Must have Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Must have Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check
  • Must have Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
  • Must be proficient in piano/instrument skills and have working knowledge of music theory (if applicable)
  • 2-3 years teaching experience/experience working with children preferred 
  • Must have strong background/experience in theatre if applicable
  • Must have a passion/desire for teaching children 
  • Must be able to reliably communicate via email

INTERNS

Internships can be customized with any combination of the following:

  • Marketing
  • Administration
  • Bookkeeping/Fundraising
  • Teaching, Assistant Directing
  • Stage Managing, Props, Costumes, etc. 
  • Script Writing

Examples of Teaching Responsibilities/Opportunities

                  1. Teach/Co-Teach Little Kids Theatre Class

  • Intern will plan and teach as many classes as their schedule allows, based upon prearranged agreement
  • Intern will help plan a 15 minute parent showcase to be presented during the last class of the session

       2. Function as Stage Manager/Asst. Producer for Kids or Teen Theatre Class

  •  Intern will be expected to attend as many classes as their schedule allows, based upon prearranged agreement
  • Intern will record blocking in script, write down notes/reminders for director
  • Intern will record any props, costumes needed and assist director as needed in locating or creating needed items
  • Intern will run the show from “back stage” – they will assist in scene transitions, oversee costume changes & prop handling, and cue actors as needed 
  •  Intern will serve as line prompt when needed
  •   Intern will assist in any set-up, tear down, or various tasks as called upon

    3. Intern may also have the opportunity to serve as assistant teacher and/or director in the Kids or Teen Theatre class

  • Assistant Teacher will rehearse scenes, lead class exercises/games, etc.
  • Assistant Director may give input regarding staging and overall directing as the director allows.  They may also have creative license to establish blocking during scene rehearsals. 

4. Intern may have the opportunity to help plan and teach the Music Adventures class for home school students.  

Commitment

  • Flexible based on pre-arranged agreement

  • Must be energetic and enthusiastic about theatre and full of creativity!
  • Must be able to reliably communicate via email
