LEVEL 4: LEADERSHIP CIRCLE

There will be a maximum of 4 students enrolled.  These apprentice leaders will follow the Encore program as indicated above.  In addition, they will choose a specialization to focus on each session.  They will receive regular coaching to help them grow and be successful in their areas of leadership.  Mentoring meetings are flexible and will be scheduled accordingly.  One suggestion is Tuesdays or Thursdays 8-9 PM.  These will also change based on specialization and session.  Students in this program will have priority in all leadership opportunities.  There is room to adapt this program to fit the skills and interests of the apprentice leaders.  To apply, submit a one page essay indicating the following: 1. What specialization(s)? 2. Why would you like to enroll? 3. Why should you be chosen? 4. Any specific opportunities you would like.

SPECIALIZATIONS:

Apprentice Director

  • Direct part/all of the Christmas showcase with step by step guidance.   Miss Angie will guide the student in action, but also take notes and give them coaching and critiques during the mentoring meetings.   They will learn how to analyze a script and create blocking.  They will learn how to prepare for rehearsals and oversee the production process.

  • If they choose to step out of acting, they may also assistant direct one of the Encore plays or the spring production

Apprentice Playwright

  •  They will be given guidelines and general ideas/themes/prompts for writing scenes.  They will be able to submit their work to be performed in the Christmas showcase and possibly the January Encore play.

  • They will submit their works and meet with Miss Angie to revise them and adapt them as needed.

  • This is open to other writing possibilities, including social media content, program notes, or another area of interest.

Apprentice Stage Manager

  • Learn the ropes of how to manage the cast and crew behind the scenes by serving as stage manager or assistant stage manager for the Christmas show and spring production.  They will still be able to act in the Encore plays.

Apprentice Teacher

  • Opportunities to teach Little Kids Theatre and Theatre 101 classes.  This can start with guidance from Miss Angie and evolve to planning and teaching a segment of a class or potentially an entire class when the student is ready.

  • Learn how to plan lessons, manage time, prepare materials, etc.

  • Miss Angie will work with you to determine what schedule works best.  Think of this as a mini version of  student teaching in college.

Apprentice Technical Director

  • Learn the fundamentals of sound and lighting.  Learn how to operate the software and work with the director to create the lighting design for the shows.  Miss Angie will assist, but also give opportunities for ownership by having the student create lighting on their own for entire scenes or sections of a show.

  • Learn how to create the sound design

  • Learn how to work with equipment and run either the light or sound for any of the shows.
